Behind the Scenes
Redirections
For a long time (11 years now), I have made it a point to make sure that
all old URLs redirect to something relevant, either the new location for a
page, or something close. That is a small detail, but over time, as I grow
the site and move things around, this becomes more and more important (to me).
Since I moved the site over to a new backend system I built, I have had more
tools available to me to have various spellings of cities as well as neighborhoods
within a city redirect correctly to the actual city on the site. Initially,
I blurred these redirects and variant spellings in the same city DB as the real
cities. This would have worked, but was a messy situation, blurring what I was
trying to do.
So today I split these two sets of data apart yet kept the capacity for the site
to redirect you automatically to what you were looking for (where possible).
