Simple Delights
Oddly enough, sometimes it's the small, trivial things in our day to day lives which
can give us the greatest satisfaction, at least at the moment. Usually the feelings
fade with time, not being one of those giant, life-altering events we either look back
at with reverence or disappointment. No, these are just little things.
But little things accumulate, and before you know it, they have amounted to a quite
large thing which you can be very proud of from that remote perch.
The Firm List is certainly like that for me. When I'm looking at the short term, day to
day view, it's filled with small disappointments and small victories. It's easy to
get disillusioned and also easy to feel like I've made a bunch of progress. But
ultimately, I have to step back and look at the larger picture to get a real feeling
for all I've accomplished. And I think I've accomplished quite a lot.
In the last few days, I've been tackling some larger projects, but at the same time,
I've had the time to follow up on the smaller projects too. The minor details which
don't prevent the thing from working, but which you still notice. Usually you have
to just put it off, as you just don't have the time to do much about it. But when
things line up in just the right way, you can knock off a lot of those at one time
and then look back and see how you've now gotten all the minor details too.
