Does It Adsense?
So I decided to try out Google's AdSense. I know other people who have made some money off of it, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to have the site pull in a little more than "next to nothing" and so I set it up. My recent site upgrades made that a snap. And so instantly, I was making dollars and cents. A little here, a little there. Adds up to a handful of change. Might add up enough to pay my therapy bills each month, that'll be nice.

I am not sure how I feel about how it looks, what it implies, etc. I've always been a little hesitant about the apparent commercialization of The Firm List. I added the standard banner ads early on because I got the feeling that no one would take the site really seriously without it. There's a certain expectation that a site that's of any value can't really be just a hobby site and thus it needs to act more like a commercial venture. Ad banners were enough to show that to people. I think.

And I do sell some ads, not every single impression. I use the rest to promote parts of The Firm List, sites I feel are cool or do a good service to the community and I use it as a sort of "thank you" gift for those who have given me something in return. That's a much better solution than trying to use one of those ad banner networks. I used one of those on a previous large-scale, high-volume site and it was a bit of a nightmare. Paid some money at first, but that tapered off. And the ads were horrible. Blink Blink Blink!

Am I looking for a fortune to fall into my lap? Am I looking to make enough to quit my day job and live the high life? Well, that wouldn't be horrible...

I'm just trying to find balance in my life.

And a little spending money.
