Behind The Firm List Blog
The Last Day.
2003 is coming to an end. It's been a wild year for all, and now it's ending and
it's time to wrap everything up, do those grand recaps of all that's passed and
put out there all the dreams/hopes we have for the new year.
I'll try and limit this all to The Firm List as that is what this is all about. You
don't want to know if I am gonna resolve to use my turn signals or whether I'll stop
smoking in hospital ICUs.
If you've been following this site with any sort of regularity, you'll have noticed
that there have been many changes to the site this year, some small, some smaller.
Much has been behind-the-scenes type changes, ones only a geek could love. I've
already mentioned some on the site, so I won't do it again. But at the same time,
you might have noticed things I didn't get to. Things like adding your firm to the
site.
Yes, it's been a tough year. Haven't has as much time as I did when I was unemployed,
and thus, I didn't always stay up with the flood of firms submitting themselves to
the site. I've been averaging 300+ firms submitting themselves per month for several
years now. This year has been no exception. So why, when you take a look at the
numbers (see here), does it not
add up to 3,600 (300 x 12) firms added? Well, that's because I didn't add them all.
Back in May/June 2003 was when I started to fall behind. I've fallen behind before.
But this time, I never managed to catch up. This was real hard for me, at first, as
I hate to disappoint people. But then I brought myself to the conclusion that it was
okay. Who can expect me to work every moment of the day for free? Do I ask you to do
your day job for no pay? Do I then ask you to go home and spend the rest of your
waking hours for no money as well?
I realized that it was still important to me to offer listings free-of-charge to anyone
who wants it. That has been tough, but important. That is why I created the Basic
and Full Member options. If you want something extra, are willing to pay a little bit
of money, then you'll get my quick and attentive response. I'll drop everything else
to handle your request. All it costs is $50US and you get my undividied attention
whenever you ask, and of course, I can be quite generous, just ask someone who's
upgraded.
But if you can't afford it or don't feel like paying, then yes, I will add your firm,
I just won't drop everything to do it just then. You'll have to wait in line. I won't
forget you, it just may take a while.
So, as 2003 comes to a close, I managed to add 1,930 firms (isn't that impressive?)
but still have 1,200+ firms in that Basic Member queue, waiting to be added. If you
add those two together, you get 3,130 firms, which is pretty darn close to that
300 firm submission a month average I mentioned.
Which just goes to show you that 2004 will be a hectic year, I should have 4,800 or
so firms to add (the 3,600 a year normal load + 1,200 leftover). That's a lot. How
am I gonna do it?
Well, we'll see how well I do. Check in at the same time next year. And if you're
interested, bump up to Full Membership and make my day AND year.
