Independence Day
With the approach of a national holiday as well as a much-needed long weekend, I am left to ponder the notion of "independence day."

Sure, it immediately brings to mind fireworks, flags, patriotism, time off work, etc. But what about the whole notion of independence?

It's easy to see the connection to freeing ourselves from the rule of another country - no brainer. But what about other forms of independence?

I realize with every night I site up late working on this site that I do not quite have that independence when it comes to my time. I've taken on the burdens and responsibilities of running this site and sometimes they are too much. Sometimes I just want to stop working on it and run away to other projects or to simply sit and watch Paradise Hotel on Fox.

But a lot of people rely on this site for some purpose or other. If I don't maintain it, what will they do?

I'm not going to go into this too much right now, because I have things I want to do AND I want to get to bed sometime this side of midnight. But I do find myself wondering if there is any sort of "independence day" for me when it comes to this site. Will it only come when I finally decide to shut it down? When someone magically appears and offers me a sum larger than I can resist?

No chance of any of those happening any time soon. So, just go ahead and enjoy the weekend. Try not to blow anything up which wasn't meant to be blown up.
