Behind The Firm List Blog
Un-Unemployed
So I stared my new fulltime job today. My first fulltime job since I was laid off at
the beginning of October 2001. Yup, right after 9/11. The firm I worked for focused on the travel industry. But
regardless, they would have gotten rid of my department (Interactive) anyways.
It's a little hard to get used to having a day job again. I have to get up at a certain time. I don't have the
same flexibility for spending my days. I have to find time to do things outside of business hours, etc.
While I am working in the same field, this job is light years away from what I was used to. It seems a stark transition
in so many ways. A 45-person firm to a 3-person firm. The position of Creative Director to a position as web developer.
Doing information architecture, web design and client meetings to doing production work. A nearly 50% cut in salary.
But that's life, I suppose.
It's a job. It's not mowing lawns or leaf blowing. (Not that those are bad, but it is 100 degrees out here in Sacramento!)
