Behind The Firm List Blog
The Job Hunt
Okay, it's been 7-1/2 months now since I was laid off. During that period, I've probably
found about 35 job openings that were anywhere remotely related to what I do. Off those, I've heard ANYTHING back from only
3 of those and one of which I got an interview for. That was for a New Media Director position for a shop here in the Boston
area. It was the only position/company that's even been remotely appealing. But they ended up hiring someone for what's in
effect a different type of position, rather than hiring anyone for the New Media Director position.
Even before I was laid off, I was looking. The writing had been on the wall for a long time. The company had issues. I had
never been the right person for them to hire. So I had been sending out resumes for probably 5-6 months prior to being laid
off. During that time I think I had two interviews, neither of which led to anything.
So I'm starting to loose hope here. I always said that it would likely be summer before things started to pick up and postings
started to increase, but I haven't seen any pick-up around here.
Everyone emails me saying they can't imagine that The Firm List hasn't helped me find a job, but it hasn't. You may have noticed
the ads for myself in the left-hand sidebar on most pages, but that hasn't led to anything. I've had a couple firms in other
cities say somewhat seriously that if I lived there that they would see about hiring me, but nothing here.
Which makes it all a little more frustrating that The Firm List doesn't bring in much money. It still requires I have a day
job.
I've been tempted to add to my online portfolio a link over to cafepress.com or something
where if they don't want to hire me they could at least buy me a T-Shirt to help clothe me. I thought the T-Shirt could say
something like: "______ wouldn't hire me, but they bought me this nice shirt."
Anyways, if anyone has any job leads, let me know.
