Behind The Firm List Blog
So-Called Legendary
There's a field on the firm submission page which asks where one heard about my site. I get
a wide range of sources, which helps me keep track of where The Firm List is being mentioned. But periodically I get references
such as: "Hasn't everyone heard of it?" and "Everyone's heard of The Firm List." Yesterday I got one that said something to the
affect of: "It's legendary in the industry."
Wow! Legendary.
Whether that's true or not, I don't know. But it does show how I wouldn't really know if it was. You see, though I've been in this
industry since well before 1996, I haven't spent a lot of time "participating" in the community. Let me explain that further.
Though I have been working on the web since 1994 and have built too many sites to even mention here, I've never been one to be a vocal
and active participant in the online community. That means I don't spend much/any time on email discussion lists, online forums, etc.
You won't see my sites mentioned on any of the design sites which all seem to have a link to the same list of websites.
I don't participate in those discussions because it's not my thing. I am much more of a build it type of guy. If people find what I built,
cool, maybe they will come back for the next thing I build. I don't really have time to stop and chat. In most cases, they aren't chatting
about what I would be interested in chatting about.
That's not to say I have anything against people who do actively participate in sites/discussions like that. I don't have any problem
with it. It's just not me.
And though I don't participate, that doesn't mean I don't read/lurk in various places. Not frequently and not for any reason but to keep
up with what's happening.
Which is why, if The Firm List is being mentioned around those forums, I am probably the last to know.
