Behind The Firm List Blog
Going, Going, Wait...
Recently I received the second inquiry into whether I was interested in selling The Firm List.
The first inquiry was more than a year ago. In both cases, I said I wasn't really interested, but just based on time I had
put into the site, the number I gave was much more than any of these two buyers were interested in.
Not that I am ready to sell.
Not that I would feel comfortable selling to most people who'd be interested.
Most people interested will want to use the database of firms that I have to market to them. You know, send you emails about
products, firms, etc. They see you as a particular market segment, a demographic. I am sitting on a wealth of marketing information
and I am not putting any time or energy into mining it.
And really, it doesn't bother me. It's not why I run the site.
But it has had me thinking about some future point when I do find myself in a position to sell or transfer the site. What would
they do with this site? Would they ruin it? Would they strip out the heart of it and focus purely on the database?
