Behind The Firm List Blog
Where Are You?
I had a very nice exchange of emails the other day with someone in Vancouver. They had submitted
their site to The Firm List and as happens in some cases, that began an exchange of emails on a less that automaton basis. (I like
a break from the form-letter response world of additions and updates sometimes. I am a person after all).
The discussion came to a point where they wanted to know where I was located. Apparently I don't really mention it anywhere on the
site. I did a quick search, and in a few places I actually hint at it, but I never say it outright.
Is this because I am afraid of the information getting out? I would assume most people using this site know how to find out that
information and more if they cared to look. But for those of you using less than prying means, I'll do a backgrounder on myself for
you.
As you know, my name is Matte Elsbernd. Matte is just a shortening of Matthew. I started spelling it Matte back in college. I can't
tell you how many Matthews/Matts I have known in my life, so I wanted something to make myself a little different.
I am a native Californian, growing up in San Francisco. Yes, San Francisco, not Oakland, Concord or somewhere in Marin County. I
spent the first 18 years of my life there, minus about 4 years while I lived in Cromwell, CT (my "Don Juan Years" as I tell my wife).
Upon graduation from St. Ignatius College Prep in SF, CA I went to college at Cal Poly in San Luis Obipso, CA.
SLO is a beautiful town. I loved my 4 years there. I liked it so much that after a year in Tacoma, WA after graduation, I moved back
to SLO for a while before heading back East.
I was originally going to be an architect, but I got fed up with the engineering, and so found myself doodling around, becoming involved
in event/concert management and web design. While working concerts I was also building websites, and when I received a job offer based
on my personal website, I chose that direction and headed off to Tacoma, WA after graduation.
Been doing web design ever since. All over the place. Seen quite a good chunk of the industry. If I haven't worked there, I probably
know someone who has.
Eventually I found myself in Boston, MA where I am now. As a lifelong Red Sox fan, it was a dream come true. Work has not always been
great, but I love this very walkable city.
So, now you know a little bit more about me. What about you? Anyone reading this?
