Behind The Firm List Blog
Sweeping Up After Myself
Just as I finally caught up again to all the firm submissions in my inbox, and took a count of how many
firm listings I now had, I also took the time to start cleaning up some of the listings. That bunch of activities covers all the bases
around hear: adding, counting and subtracting. A regular math lesson.
First the adding. I've been a solid week behind in adding firms for about a month now, but I am now caught up through last night. It
was a series of days when I just didn't work on the site (including a nice relaxing weekend on Cape Cod) as well as several days spent
adding new features to the site.
The counting I do every so often, to see how the site is growing. The numbers are not entirely accurate, as I always discover during
periods of subtractions. The numbers are of firm listings. So this includes all instances of a firm. If a large firm has 3 locations,
that's 3 firm listings. Most firms only have one location. Most of the larger firms have been closing offices or closing down. About
2-3 weeks ago I did a lot of subtracting as I cleaned up the big firm listings (as best I could).
In the counting stage, I got the following numbers:
- australia.firmlist.com (Australia) has 212 firm listings
- canada.firmlist.com (Canada) has 501 firm listings
- uk.firmlist.com (UK) has 694 firm listings
- www.firmlist.com (US & Remaining Countries) has 6,162 firm listings
- total firm listings = 7,569
I then proceeded on to the subtraction stage. Based on a user's email, I went ahead and started cleaning up the Sydney listings.
I moved a lot of firms to reflect their new (or real) locations. I also removed some firms which no longer exist or have been
swallowed up by other firms.
I do this subtraction faze as often as I can. I did it for Boston's listings earlier this week. It cuts down on the numbers, but
it's not about the numbers, it's about the quality inherent in those numbers.
