Behind The Firm List Blog
Sudden Rushes of Traffic
Every so often, a piece of publicity or someone sharing a link with their colleagues will result
in a large number of firms in one area signing up to be on the site. This is always a really nice feeling, especially when it's
someone telling their friends.
In the last few days, I have seen this happen with Moscow area firms as well as some
Vancouver area firms. The Moscow firms are particularly important to me as I hope to strengthen the international listings on
the site. I think this has always been a strength for my site. Even when the numbers of firms outside of the US/Canada were
small, the fact that I built the site to accommodate/welcome their inclusion as well as my interest in including them, has made
this much more of a "global" site than most of its kind.
There's a lot more work to be done to make it a "global" site,
but I haven't lost site of those steps. The site needs to feature more region/country-specific content and resources and the
site needs to be available in other languages.
These are all things that I hope to do with the site in the months/years
ahead. Who knows how long it will take me.
Numbers
I am getting really close to the 6,000 firm listing mark. As far as I know, that's the most of any directory of its kind on the
web (that I know of). This is amazing to me. Nearly 2,000 added in the last year alone. And what's even more amazing is that
it's been at least a year since I needed to go out and find any firms to add. I get a steady stream of firms signing up to be
listed. Somedays I wonder when the stream will die out, but most of the time I just realize how many firms there must be
worldwide, and 6,000 is only scratching the surface.
